MOSCOW, -- Chechnya has launched an effective campaign against the ideology of terrorism and Wahhabism, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov told in an exclusive interview.
“It is not only the law enforcers that wage a war on the terrorists and the bandits. We employ all resources in order to resist the ideology of Wahhabism,” he said.
“The clergy are conducting active explanatory work with the population. At mosques and at different meetings with people, in particular, young people, theologians show to the younger generation the real worth of Wahhabism. The target audience of our alims (connoisseurs of Islam) is youth, because it is most vulnerable to the adverse effects of brainwashing,” Kadyrov said.
Chechnya has a special print shop publishing religious handouts. It is called The Way.
“The print shop’s staff, alongside technical personnel, consists mostly of theologians,” Kadyrov said. “They are issuing discs and brochures explaining the true religious values. The print shop also has its own Islamic television and radio station, broadcasting daily programs addressed to the younger generation.
“We launched an ideological campaign against the militants’ recruiters in the Internet. We have highly qualified specialists, who join various forums and chats in the world web to explain to young people the dangers of Wahhabism, which is out to alter traditional Islam and distort the basics of our religion,” Kadyrov said. “These days very few yield to the militants’ tricks. Our people openly condemn the bandits, deny support and help law enforcers expose and track down militants.”
